Once a Client, Always a Client: Why I Stay “Reactive for Life”

No question, my favourite thing about working in public relations and living in Vancouver is meeting people, learning about their brands and then sharing their stories. Being connected to my community, especially the small business community is always exciting. There are so many innovative entrepreneurs in this city!

Over the last 12+ (eek!) years, I’ve worked with a lot of local brands, service providers and great people, in businesses big and small. If we’ve worked together before we’re probably still connected whether that’s running into one another at events, following on social media or having clients or contacts in common.

Warning: Once you’ve worked with me, you’re never fully rid of me.

You’re actually never really off my client roster. I always say that I stay reactive for life—meaning, if an opportunity comes up that fits you, your brand, or your business, I’m going to pitch you, connect you, or throw your name in the hat. Also, if a journalist gets in touch with me 18 months after I pitched them your story (yes it’s happened,) I’m representing you (if appropriate of course.) But either way, I’m picking up the phone and getting you that opportunity.

From Past Clients to Perfect Collaborators

I love making those connections. Brands, providers, venues, ideas—there’s so much magic that happens when the right people collaborate. That’s what happened recently with a new client, Leah Yard Designs and a past client from two years ago, Garden Party Flowers.

I started working with Leah Yard, a talented jewelry designer and stylist, just this year. Leah has built an incredible brand offering demi-fine jewellery designed to bring a touch of glamour to every day. Her pieces are all about elegance, wearability, and celebrating unique and versatile style.

Garden Party Flowers, owned by Genevieve Blondin, is one of Vancouver’s top local florists. Genevieve has curated an incredible team of expert floral designers and what they create is so beautiful (and smells so good). They work with local growers, farmers and distributors to offer only the most beautiful and unique floral designs, both for one off occasions, wedding and retail and hotel subscriptions.

Even though my contract with Garden Party Flowers wrapped two years ago, they’re such a beautiful brand I always keep them in mind. Chatting with Leah about Valentine’s Day, I instantly saw the potential for a perfect collaboration. Both brands have similar audiences, are non-competing, both local and compliment one another incredibly well. I connected them, sat in on an intro call and now Leah has Garden Party Flower bouquets in her Granville Island Popup in Little Mountain Shop for the two weeks she’s there.

On Valentine’s Day, Leah’s jewelry will be available at Garden Party Flowers for those picking up bouquets and wanting to add a touch of wearable sparkle. This collab blends beautiful fresh blooms and timeless jewelry—a match made in brand synergy heaven! Seeing my past and present clients lift one another up and both find success from the partnership is exactly why I do what I do.

The Power of Staying Connected

My PR approach has never been about ticking off deliverables and moving on. When we work together, you become part of my extended business network. Whether it’s months or years down the road, if I see an opportunity that makes sense for you, I’ll send that email, make that introduction, or highlight your name in the conversation.

Because connections build businesses. And when you work with me, you’re not just hiring a PR strategist—you’re getting a lifelong advocate for your brand.

Thinking About Collaborating?

If you’re a current or past client and open to collaboration, let’s chat! You never know what connections are waiting to help you tap into a new audience. If we haven’t worked together yet, book a PR Power Hour and get on my radar!
