Public relations and visibility for your business often feels like something that comes later. After the big launch. After the rebrand. After you hit that next revenue goal or finally hire a team.
But here’s the thing: PR isn’t about being perfect, or about having a celebrity spokesperson, it’s about being prepared.
I’ve worked with many founders and small businesses who didn’t believe they weren’t ready for PR… only to realize, once we walked through what actually matters, that they had more than enough to start showing up in front of new audiences and building their credibility through media, strategic collaborations and visibility. They’re experts. You’re an expert.
This post is your gut-check. If you check 3 or more of the boxes below, you’re ready to explore PR and my PR Power Hour can help you figure out exactly what to do next.
1. You have a clear offer and know who it’s for
You don’t need a complicated funnel or a brand strategist on retainer. But you do need to know what you’re selling, who it’s for, and why it matters. It’s also valuable to have a story to share about what got you there.
If you can clearly say, “I help [this type of person] do [this transformation] through [this offer],” you’ve already got the foundation for a strong pitch. Media loves clarity, and so do potential clients.
2. You’re creating content consistently
If you’re showing up regularly, whether that’s on Instagram, a podcast, or your email list, at markets or events in person, you’ve already proven that you have something to say and that you’re building a brand, not just running a business.
Your content can often become your pitch. Your most engaged posts, spiciest takes, or popular how-to’s? They’re full of media-worthy hooks, waiting to be pulled out.
3. You’ve got strong POVs and expert takes
PR isn’t about being controversial. It’s about having a point of view.
If you’ve ever found yourself mid-rant in the Notes app, yelling to your business bestie in the DMs, or thinking, “Ugh, why is no one talking about this differently?” that’s a sign. Those opinions? They’re pitchable. Those takes? That’s the kind of fresh perspective producers and editors are looking for. You’re ready to start a conversation.
4. You’re ready to be found (and followed)
If someone Googled you today, what would they see?
You don’t need a perfect website or 10k followers. But if your bio is clear, your website or socials are current, and your link-in-bio actually leads somewhere intentional, congrats: you’re findable, likely by both AI and Google.
Journalists and podcast hosts will look you up before they say yes. Making it easy for them to see you’re legit is a huge piece of the PR puzzle.
5. You’re ready to grow your audience beyond your own platform
You’ve built something solid. You’re posting, emailing, maybe even podcasting. And now you’re wondering, “What’s next?”
That’s exactly when PR starts to make sense.
Public Relations isn’t about starting from scratch, it’s about amplifying what’s already working. It gets you in front of aligned audiences, builds trust fast, and opens doors you can’t access on your own.
6. You have a call to action
If someone heard you on a podcast tomorrow or saw you quoted in an article, do you have a clear next step they can take to support your business or spread your message?
Whether it’s booking a discovery call, downloading a freebie, joining your email list, or checking out your latest offer, you need a place to direct people once they find you.
Even a simple link to your website or a free guide is enough. The point is: when someone wants more from you, make it easy to say yes.
How many did you check?
If it’s three or more, it’s time to stop second-guessing and start exploring what PR could look like for you.You don’t need a full-blown PR strategy and team to execute it. You don’t need a press kit or a VA pitching on your behalf. What you do need is clarity, direction, and a starting point.
And that’s exactly what a PR Power Hour is designed to give you. Let’s give you clarity, direction and draft a great first pitch. Let’s get you seen. Book your power hour here: wintcommunications.com/pr-power-hour
